Cambridge City Council has earmarked up to £29,400 from their £250,000 'climate change' budget to buy 42 of Apple's latest gadget.
They claim it will improve their eco-credentials by helping to get rid of some of the thousands of pages of printed documents used in meetings each year.
The £250,000 climate change budget was approved by the council in March last year to reduce the carbon footprint of internal projects.

There were many themes that popped up in this year's batch of Super Bowl ads.
Several ads exhibited nostalgia for the 1980s, with icons of the era including the 1985 Chicago Bears, "National Lampoon's Vacation" stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo and "Golden Girls" star Betty White all making appearances.

CHANGES to the skilled migration program will not protect vulnerable students who have spent thousands of dollars and many years trying to gain residency in Australia, an advocacy group says.
Carolina Schwinden, 24, a spokeswoman for Almost Australian, said the group had been formed to support the thousands of people who were agonisingly close to gaining residency in Australia before changes in the skilled migration program announced this week meant their applications may no longer be successful.

Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday gave the thumbs down to the commercialisation of Bt Brinjal and imposed a moratorium on it till further study.
Ramesh said, " It is my duty to adopt a cautious approach on Bt Brinjal."
"Moratorium has been issued till the study confirms safety of the product," he added.

THE federal government's plan to extend income management of welfare payments beyond the Northern Territory is a "clumsily disguised and cynical attempt" to perpetuate racial discrimination against indigenous Australians, a former chief justice of the Family Court of Australia said yesterday.
Alastair Nicholson, now an honorary professorial fellow in law at the University of Melbourne, said he considered it "highly unlikely" the proposed powers would ever be used against welfare recipients generally.
